BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost uses the data bus CAN to communicate with your vehicle. This stops thieves from replacing the ECU or adding a new lock to bypass the security system.

Unlike other immobilisers the Ghost does not use LEDs or key fobs. It makes use of the buttons on your vehicle to let you enter a unique disarming sequence that only you know.

Stop & Start

If you've previously driven a BMW or utilized its stop-start feature, you might have noticed that the engine continues to run for 30 seconds after you release the brake pedal. This is due to the BMW engine management system continuously monitoring your vehicle for signals from the ignition key, and once this is found it will keep running. Our BMW ghost immobiliser, which is a next-generation device, does not require cutting OEM wires or add aftermarket alarms and key fobs. It is connected to your BMW's CAN data network and is programmed with a secure, unique PIN code which is accessible via buttons that are installed in your car. Service Mode / Valet Mode

Anti-Hijack

With hi-tech thieves becoming more and more sophisticated, the security technology is continuing to improve, which is why Ghost has created this subtle and unobtrusive immobiliser. It is designed to stop thieves from putting in keys or replacing the ECU to start your car and drive it off. Ghost links up to your CAN data network, and utilizes the buttons within your vehicle (steering wheel and centre console as well as door panels) to create an individual push sequence that needs to be completed before the engine can start.

This will activate the anti-hijack mode and once active any attempt to start the engine will be stopped. Once the system detects that the vehicle is no longer moving, it will honk the horn and flash the indicators. If it fails to find the correct code it will also stall the engine (where it is). By entering your push sequence or entering service mode, you can cancel the Anti-Hijack feature. This allows your vehicle to temporarily start without having to enter a PIN.

If you own an GPS device linked up to your BMW it is possible to use it to cancel the Anti-Hijack feature, allowing you to still use the navigation system inside your car even when the vehicle is parked not being watched. The device is connected to the vehicle's CAN Data Network (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a unique PIN code is inserted into it. The pin code has to be entered before the vehicle starts. This prevents thieves from using a cloned key or replacing the ECU to disable this system.

If your vehicle is stolen the Ghost will enter service mode and disable all functions unless you have the PIN number or use the mobile application to disable it. This feature was developed to safeguard your vehicle from high-tech thieves who use relay boxes to steal it. This will stop thieves from using mobile phones to turn on your sat-navs or mp3 players to track your vehicle!

Ghost also can stop the 'Relay Style Frequency Amplifier'. This is the most common method of stealing a car with a keyfob which has been copied, or stolen by hacking. Ghost can help you avoid this by installing an anti-theft device in your vehicle, called Secure-A-Key. The device is installed inside the key fob of your vehicle and disconnects its battery after a couple of inactive minutes. This can be accomplished with the majority of modern PKE keys.
